Deutzia Yuki Cherry Blossom………Deutzia 'NCDX2' PP#28,347; CBR#5079

Common Name: Dwarf Cherry Blossom

After ten years in the making, meet Yuki Cherry Blossom, the first 'Nikko'-type Deutzia that produces pink flowers! This spring-flowering beauty produces a plethora of lovely, bell-shaped, bicolor flowers with petals that are pink on the outside and white on the inside. Expect another color show in fall when the low mound of arching foliage turns to a deep burgundy color. You'll also be happy to know the flowers attract hummingbirds and deer turn those nose up to the plant.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in an arching mound only 12 to 24 inches tall and 24 inches wide, Yuki Cherry Blossom Deutzia creates a carpet of color in the garden and is a superb solo or filler in container gardens. Ideal for use as an accent plant in smaller garden spaces and flowering shrub borders or in groupings or as a border along walkways or paths in larger landscape spaces. A fine addition to pink color theme gardens, hummingbird gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing: 18" for mass planting; 36"+ for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Yuki Cherry Blossom Deutzia is very easy to grow in a wide range of soils, preferring a moist but well-drained humusy loam. Established plants have good drought tolerance. Constantly soggy or wet soil can cause problems with the roots. We suggest full to mostly sun (6 hours or more of direct sunlight) for best flowering though plants will tolerate some light shade. Maintenance isn't much. Pruning isn't necessary however we do an annual pruning immediately after the spring to ensure more dense plants and heavier bloom. Avoid late season or winter pruning as the flowers are produced on old wood.
